In conversation with the French designer making waves at London Fashion Week.
Friday 13th September saw young French designer, Vincent Lapp, present his debut collection AV. The newly born couture label, is founded by Vincent Lapp & design partner Andrea Altmann and strives to create avant-garde, mindful fashion whilst addressing social and political issues of the female body. Having met during their time at Iris van Herpen, the design duo share a love of couture and high fashion. Set in the contemporary basement of Bloomsbury’s Victoria House, the atmosphere was filled with euphoria and exhilaration. With a front row packed with press and industry professionals, all eyes were on Vincent & Andrea.
Following his graduation from the renowned Central Saint Martins, Vincent Lapp’s graduate collection caught the eye of fashion fanatics everywhere. With his striking collection having a starring role in the prestigious CSM 2018 BA Press Show, his debut collection was presented at London Fashion Week 2019 during the One’s To Watch catwalk show in collaboration with Fashion Scout.

“It was an amazing feeling to be selected for the One’s To Watch Award and to have the chance to show the new collection at LFW!”
The CSM alumni has acquired an abundance of press coverage through our Graduate Talent Programme, PR & Showroom Service. Within a year of graduation, Vincent has received such positive feedback from both press and industry professionals. His graduate collection has been requested by a host of renowned publications including; Tatler, W Magazine, Vogue Italia, LOVE, and Blanc to name a few. In turn, this ensured the launch of his debut collection was one of the most sought after shows to attend.
“As a young designer you work hard to get your garments into such fantastic publications and to see them worn and shot for published issues or online content is another form of reward.”
With couture being considered such an incredible talent, through hand craftsmanship and innovative design to present luxurious show stopping garments, it is extremely encouraging to witness such a young designer being recognised for his sheer talent. Vincent’s Royal Blue Velvet Jumpsuit and Headpiece certainly became the staple of his graduate collection and caught the eye of many famous photographers and creatives. AV saw a continuation of his iconic silhouettes and avant-garde creations, through a more ready-to-wear line.
“Every designer is dreaming to see their pieces on VOGUE! I am especially proud of that.”
As ‘couture’ is simply translated from the French word for ‘dressmaking’, it is extremely fitting for Vincent’s French heritage to influence his designs. Not only are his striking garments an embodiment of high fashion, his designs have a unique depth meaning. AV is created in response to the treatment of women and the female body in radicalised religious groups.
“To me couture is the best source of excitement in fashion. Our debut collection was a mix between couture orientated fashion and ready-to-wear. With AV Couture, I hope to create a true couture atelier, which stands for traditional craftsmanship and perfection.”
With Vincent achieving so much in such a short space of time, his newly released couture label has certainly established himself as a designer to watch. With continued support from Fashion Crossover, along with the industry, press and other young creatives. It is extremely encouraging to witness such talent and passion shine.
“Working for my own label was always my biggest dream. AV Couture is an instrument to visualise our thoughts, and all the society’s absurdities we think are essential to tackle."
Through our Graduate Talent Programme, Vincent focused on utilising his graduate collection to accumulate a number of credible press and contacts. This set a solid foundation and high anticipation prior to the launch of his debut collection. With a room packed full of press, photographers and stylists. AV ensured the room was silent except for the flashing of cameras. With another International Fashion Week in the runnings, Vincent Lapp is set to continue his rise within the fashion industry.
